Specially made thread for the left-handed people!

Have you ever felt frustrated with the thread untwisting as you stitch? Maybe that’s because of the direction of the thread’s twist.

There are S-twist and Z-twist, and the common sashiko threads from different brands are made with S-twist way. Usually sashiko threads consists of 4 or 6 strands of threads depending on the thickness. For right-handed people like me, they work just fine without having any troubles. But it seems that they get untwisted when left-handed people stitches.

I learned this fact from my friend @momo_sashico who is a great artisan of sashiko and left-handed. She had this “untwisting thread” issue for a long time, and one day, she found the thread which is easy to stitch with and then she found out the difference of the twisting direction. Now she is ordering the thread from the manufacturer and making them dye with indigo and Indian madder to make her original threads for the purpose of making her sashiko more beautiful. 

 ※ The natura-white thread is S-twist like the usual sashiko threads, but it’s twisted more tighter than common sashiko threads, so easy to stitch with for the left-handed, too.

She was making these threads just for herself and didn’t have any intention to sell, but she generously offered me some this time. This first limited edition will be wrapped around hand-woven Takonoha bobbin made by @takonoha. Read more about Takonoha crafts from this blog post:

【How to handle the natural dyed threads】
Natural dyed threads require some attention and understanding of how to care. It’s better to hand wash. DO NOT USE BLEACH. Enjoy the color aging over time.
