Sarashi is the name of the fabric that we use to make hanafukin (sashiko stitched dish cloths). It’s thin and light, evenly weaved cotton fabric. To double this Sarashi fabric is the standard way to make hanfukin.

This listing is a pre-cut sarashi of 1.5m long. If you cut it in half and double it, you can make 2 hanafukin.(finished size: approx.34cm ×34cm)

【Why do you double it?】
It’s too thin to use as a dish towel as it is. To double it and adding sashiko stitching makes a good thickness to hanafukin. Also, doubled fabric has the advantage of being able to hide knots in between the two layers. Therefore you can make your hanafukin beautiful on both sides.

【About the size】
There are some differences depending on the maker, but the standard width of sarashi is about 34cm. And when we buy a roll, it’s 10m long.

【About the color】
When we say sarashi, it’s mostly bleach-white. But I found the natural-white and the ecru ones and have been using them as my favorites. Each of them are manufactured in Japan.
